Stormwater

February 5, 2010

Stormwater is the highest priority for water recycling but aquifers must be left naturally resilient. Stormwater and wastewater should not be released into Gulf St Vincent.

Notes

Adelaide’s tectonics and aquifer zones are well suited to stormwater storage and retrieval. Stormwater and water recycling for Adelaide is discussed by Richard Clark. CSIRO have shown that stormwater can be treated to produce drinking water.

Other options for capturing rainfall are also available. For example Warrnambool will soon use roofs to boost dam levels.

Using modelling based on the Singapore experience, it can be shown that in all the major cities of Australia, even in drought years, there’s enough rain falling on those cities to actually cover those cities’ water consumptions.
